Job summary

The University of Virginia is seeking Computer Science / IT student workers to provide on-site technical support for 24-hour clinical studies. You will help ensure study devices, sensors, and data systems function around the clock and support manual testing, including wearing CGMs as part of study protocols.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting hardware/software, logging issues, and escalating unresolved problems to engineers or clinical leads, all while adhering to study protocols and data

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, in the 3rd or 4th year of study.
  • Comfortable working with hardware/software troubleshooting.
  • Willingness to wear on-body medical sensors (e.g., CGMs) for testing duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time technical support to clinical staff and study participants during 24-hour study sessions (shift-based coverage).
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, connectivity, and data-sync issues with study devices and sensors.
  • Apply and wear CGMs and other on-body sensors as a test subject to support testing and validate device functionality, comfort, and data accuracy.
  • Follow software technical notes and troubleshoot issues encountered during clinical trials.
  • Monitor devices and systems during study sessions and report issues promptly.
  • Log incidents, device errors, and troubleshooting steps clearly and accurately.
  • Escalate unresolved technical issues to engineering or clinical leads as needed.
  • Follow study protocols, safety procedures, and data privacy requirements.
  • Communicate clearly with clinical staff to minimize disruption to study participants.
