Job summary

The University of Virginia Physicians Group is seeking student workers for research computing roles. You will develop teaching materials, assist in workshops, and support web updates.

Applicants should be current UVA students with programming familiarity and strong communication skills. Compensation is $18.00/hr, requiring a commitment to 20 hours/week from July 1, 2026, through Fall 2026.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with programming languages such as Bash, Python, R, Java, Lua, Julia, or Ruby.
• Experience with Markdown language and Git version control is a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to work within a team.
• Ability to organize and prioritize assignments.
• Commitment to in-person student group meetings once a week.

Responsibilities

• Develop teaching materials and convert tutorials into multiple media formats.
• TA in workshops, helping test examples and manage attendees' accounts.
• Assist with website updates and maintenance.
• Install scientific software and document processes.
• Support staff with consulting requests and gather resource metrics.

Skills

Familiarity with a programming language (Bash, Python, R, Java, Lua, Julia, Ruby)
