Job summary

UNC Hospitals Hand Center in Chapel Hill, NC seeks an experienced Occupational Therapist II – Clinical Specialist to join the Hand Therapy Clinic. This full-time, onsite role focuses on advanced hand therapy and upper-extremity rehab within an academic medical center.

The OT II will lead advanced evaluations, orthosis fabrication, and evidence-based postoperative care, while mentoring colleagues and contributing to program development.

Qualifications

• Five years of occupational therapy experience including one year in the specialty field.
• Licensed as an Occupational Therapist in North Carolina.
• Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) credential preferred.
• Experience in outpatient hand therapy and custom splint fabrication preferred.
• Strong clinical reasoning and ability to mentor colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive occupational therapy evaluation and skilled intervention for complex upper-extremity conditions.
• Administer and interpret evaluations, standardized outcome measures, and specialty testing.
• Design, fabricate, fit, and progress custom upper-extremity orthoses.
• Develop and implement postoperative rehabilitation plans and monitor progress.
• Mentor staff, support onboarding, and contribute to specialty program development.
• Collaborate with hand surgeons and the interdisciplinary team to optimize care.
