Job summary

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks an Assistant Civil Engineer to support green infrastructure design and construction. Under supervision, responsibilities include field testing, site inspections, contract plan review, geotechnical analysis, and reporting with AutoCAD/ArcGIS.

A civil engineering degree is required, with options for related credentials. Applicants must provide proof of filing the recent DCAS Civil Service Exam and meet the minimum qualifications.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
• Baccalaureate degree in civil engineering technology and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
• Baccalaureate degree and master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

• Perform porous pavement asset testing and field inspections for Green Infrastructure. Prepare and submit reports.
• Review maintenance logs for porous pavement, geotechnical reports, contract plans and as-builts.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and porous pavement cleaning operators for maintenance.
• Perform inspection audits to measure proper cleaning during maintenance operations as well as contractor’s performance during construction of green infrastructure projects.
• Perform field visits during design, geotechnical investigations, construction and post construction.
• Perform desktop analysis using AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS software to analyze tributary areas and contract area boundaries for Green Infrastructure.
• Perform enforcement of compliance with the DEP sewer use regulations.
