Job summary

The City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks an Assistant Civil Engineer within the Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations to support stormwater management, drainage infrastructure, and sewer system improvements.

You will perform analyses, collect and analyze data, prepare calculations and drawings, review design documents for DEP standards, and apply hydraulic/hydrologic modeling and GIS tools while coordinating with bureaus, consultants, contractors, and regulators

Qualifications

• A civil engineering degree from an accredited college and 1 year of experience; or
• A civil engineering technology degree with 3 years of civil engineering experience; or
• A BS in Civil Engineering and a MS in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering analyses to support stormwater management and drainage projects.
• Collect, organize, and interpret hydraulic and hydrologic data.
• Prepare calculations, technical memoranda, reports, drawings, and presentations.
• Review plans and specs for compliance with DEP standards and project requirements.
• Apply hydraulic/hydrologic modeling tools, GIS, AutoCAD, and other software in planning and design.
• Participate in field investigations and site inspections to observe conditions.
• Coordinate with DEP bureaus, consultants, contractors, utilities, and regulators.
• Maintain project documentation and assist with scheduling and coordination.
• Support drainage infrastructure improvements to reduce flood risk and improve resilience.
