Job summary

UC Santa Cruz invites applications for a Graduate Advisor in Baskin Engineering to lead graduate program coordination and advisory services. The role collaborates with BE faculty to support graduate students and manages diverse program requirements across departments.

The position emphasizes policy interpretation, complex problem solving, and efficient organizational skills within a 100% 40-hour workweek on a hybrid schedule, with in-person days at the Santa Cruz campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience and / or training.
• Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
• Knowledge of common university computer application programs, including Google Suite, Excel, Microsoft Office, and Windows.
• Demonstrated ability to research, interpret, and apply complex policies, procedures, and information, and to recommend solutions on own initiative.
• Problem solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve both complex and routine problems in a timely manner.
• Good judgment and decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize work, manage time effectively according to deadlines and project urgency, and maintain high accuracy with frequent interruptions and distractions.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
• Strong verbal communication skills.

• Demonstrated ability to understand, develop and present budgetary and financial information.
• Ability to oversee and accurately document use of financial resources in compliance with University requirements.

Responsibilities

• Independently provides the full range of graduate student support on a variety of issues, including registration and enrollment policies and procedures, degree requirements, administrative issues, withdrawals and readmissions, departmental and campus programs, and graduation.
• Assesses student needs, goals, problems, and personal adjustments relating to academic performance.
• Monitors student progress, identifies progression problems, and recommends interventions.
• Oversees support for enrollment management and collaborates with faculty on policy implementation.
• Provides leadership of admissions process and guides offers of admission and funding.
• Oversees administration of fellowships and other fund sources.
• Maintains internal graduate student database and generates statistical reports.
• Gathers data for budget forecasting and ensures compliance with university requirements.
