Job summary

University of California, Santa Cruz is seeking an experienced academic advisor to lead all undergraduate advising in the Environmental Studies Department (ENVS) and support internship programs on the main campus.

Under the ENVS Department Manager, the coordinator has full administrative responsibility, serves on several committees, and works with Campus Advising Coordination to update policies and procedures for advising across the department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent experience/training.
• Through knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including active listening.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience recruiting, interviewing, and supervising student employees.

Responsibilities

• Independently provides prescriptive advice and holistic assistance to students on enrollment, degree progress, and major requirements.
• Monitors students’ academic progress and conducts targeted proactive outreach for completion of requirements.
• Assists students in determining a major, alternative options, scheduling conflicts, and related issues.
• Orients new students and creates individualized academic plans; applies courses to degree requirements for transfer students.
