Job summary

UC Santa Barbara seeks an Academic Advisor 3 SV to counsel graduate students, faculty, and staff on university-wide and campus-wide policies. You will support approximately 50 departments and 85+ degrees, advising on standards, degree requirements, progress, and policy exceptions.

You will coordinate with programs to reflect UCSB requirements, help maximize enrollment, and manage degree milestone entries in Graduate Division systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent experience / training.
• 1-3 years of experience with high detail and accuracy in policy application and data entry.
• 1-3 years of experience with Word, Excel, online systems, and Microsoft Access.
• Ability to interpret, apply, and disseminate policy regulations approved by campus bodies.
• Ability to assimilate, analyze, and communicate complex information from multiple sources.
• Strong interpersonal skills for interaction with graduate students, faculty, staff, and offices.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet hard campus deadlines.
• Strong oral and written communication; ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Advises graduate students, individually or in groups, about academic standards and degree requirements.
• Coordinates with programs to ensure departmental requirements reflect UC/UCSB standards.
• Aims to maximize graduate enrollment each quarter and enters degree milestones into systems.
• Supervises students in filing electronic theses and dissertations.
• Fosters graduate student retention and degree completion with the Academic Services team.
