Job summary

Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. (ESS) seeks a Surveying Intern to assist our GPS team in Lawrence, KS. You will learn construction layout, project workflows, and field surveying with a focus on real-world hands-on experience.

You will work alongside an experienced Surveying Technician, gaining exposure to plan reading, site measurements, and on-site problem solving. This internship is ideal for someone studying Construction Management or surveying-related fields and may lead to full-time opportunities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Willing to train the right candidate who fits our culture.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Two years of construction industry experience is required.
• College or technical degree in Surveying or related field (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying instruments.
• Calibrate sites for GPS rovers and GPS machine control.
• Troubleshoot GPS machine control.
• Construction layout using plans, establishing lines and grades.
• Record engineering notes and data.
• Provide work control lines and elevations for accurate installation.
• Provide topographic surveys and quantity estimates.
• Prepare documentation of surveying activities.
• Coordinate surveying with site personnel.
• Be safety minded and professional on/off site.
