Job summary

Joseph Michaels International seeks an Audit Director with a State and Local Government specialization to join our progressive Los Angeles team. This role offers a fast track to Partnership, a hybrid work environment, and relocation assistance for the right candidate.

The Director will oversee multiple auditing engagements, manage staff, develop client relationships, and lead business development efforts with a focus on governmental entities.

Qualifications

• Approximately 10 years' experience in public accounting and a minimum of 2 years in a senior manager position.
• Experience auditing state and local governments (cities, counties, districts, charter schools, etc.).
• Willingness to travel to client and firm locations.
• Significant experience conducting audits per GAAS, GAGAS/Yellow Book, and the Uniform Guidance.
• Maintains compliance with firm policies.

Responsibilities

• Maintains contact with clients throughout the year and oversees engagement workflow, ensuring deliverables meet applicable standards and firm policies.
• Either serves as the engagement partner or reports to the engagement partner on engagements.
• Signs attest opinions as a representative of the firm when assigned.
• Oversees all phases of reporting to the engagement partner and ensures client deliverables comply with accounting framework and firm policy.
• Identifies issues on engagements and implements solutions after partner consultation.
• Participates in recruitment and training of staff; leads performance evaluations and counseling.
• Represents the firm in business development and develops referrals to generate new business for the firm.
• Leads initial client communications, generates fee estimates, and attends prospective client meetings.

Education

Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
