Job summary

The American Hospital Association (AHA) seeks a Governance Lead for AONL and the AONL Foundation to spearhead board operations, bylaws management, nominations, and elections. Reporting to the COO, you will partner with executive and volunteer leadership to design governance processes and ensure alignment with strategic priorities.

You will develop governance tools, onboarding programs, and dashboards, while guiding leadership succession and risk management.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in governance, board administration, nonprofit/association management, or executive support.
• Experience serving as staff liaison to Boards or governance committees.
• Experience leading governance projects with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own the governance framework for AONL and the AONL Foundation, managing board operations and best practices.
• Advise executive and volunteer leadership on governance matters to strengthen board effectiveness.
• Develop and manage the annual governance work plan aligned with strategic priorities.
• Lead planning and execution of Board and Executive Committee meetings with clear minutes and action items.
• Oversee governance records, portals, and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
• Develop governance tools, templates, and onboarding programs for boards.
