Job summary

NewGen Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Government Network Operations Center (GNOC) Tier II Network Technician to support the client\u2019s data communications systems on a 24x7 team.

From the GNOC location, the Tier II technician will remotely support installation and maintenance of LAN/WAN devices, respond to incidents, configure VLANs, and troubleshoot OSI layers 1. The role requires high clearance and DoD-compliant IAT Level 2 expertise.

Qualifications

• TS/SCI CI Poly Clearance required.
• 10 years of combined work history and education ( Doctorate +3, Masters +4, Bachelors +6, Associates +8, HS +10).
• DoD 8140 IAT Level 2 certification or equivalent.
• Knowledge of Cisco IOS, Juniper JUNOS, Brocade and Foundry OS.
• Layer 1–3 network experience.
• Familiarity with Layer 3 protocols: OSPF, BGP, VRRP, HSRP, MPLS, LSP, GRE.
• Familiarity with Visio and ServiceNow.

Responsibilities

• Respond to and resolve incident tickets from GNOC location.
• Configure and troubleshoot VLANs and layer 2 switching.
• Troubleshoot layer 1–3 network faults using OSI model.
• Manage layer 3 routing across the enterprise network.
• Troubleshoot MPLS across the WAN.
• Evaluate new network technologies and advise on integration with existing network.
• Use tools like Microfocus and Riverbed to identify and isolate incidents.
• Coordinate with vendors and service providers to resolve incidents.
• Diagnose hardware and software problems and coordinate replacements.
• Support network operations and administer networks and configurations.

Job description

NewGen Technologies has an opening for a Government Network Operations Center (GNOC) Tier II Network Technician to support the customer’s computer data communications systems, by providing in-depth event management and rapid incident response as part of a 24x7 network operations support team.

Responsibilities

• From the GNOC location the Tier 2 network technician will leverage device command line interfaces to remotely support the installation and maintenance of the client Local Area Network (LAN)/Wide Area Network (WAN) devices. Respond to and resolve incident tickets.
• Configure and troubleshoot layer 2 switching (Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs))
• Leverage knowledge of OSI layers 1, 2, and 3 to troubleshoot various network faults and performance issues
• Modify and troubleshoot layer three routing across the enterprise network
• Conduct extensive troubleshooting of Multiprotocol Label Switch (MPLS) across the WAN.
• Participate in evaluation of new network technologies and provide recommendations to the network architecture team regarding the integration of these technologies into the existing network. Ensures that plans for hardware and communications are adequate. Develops and implements methodologies for analysis, testing, and support of LAN and WAN networks.
• Leverage various network tools such as Microfocus and Riverbed to quickly identify and isolate customer impacting events on the network
• Make use of problem management best practices to minimize recurring customer impacting incidents on the network.
• Communicate and troubleshoot with vendors and other service providers to efficiently resolve incidents
• Diagnose hardware and software problems and coordinate the replacement of defective components
• Support operations and maintain activities and administer networks including hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations
• Support network operations and maintenance activities via technical exchange meetings
• Any other tasks as needed to provide proper network related support for customer mission focused systems.

Requirements

• TS/SCI CI Poly Clearance
• 10 years of experience that can be a combination of work history and education. This equates to a Doctorate and 3 years, master’s and 4 years, bachelor’s and 6 years, associates and 8 years or HS diploma and 10 years.
• Compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) 8140 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level 2
• Knowledge of Cisco Internetwork Operating System (IOS), Juniper JUNOS, Brocade and Foundry Operating System (OS)
• Layer 1, 2, and 3 network experience
• Familiarity (doesn’t need to be an SME) with Layer 3 protocols such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP), Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Label-switched Path (LSP), and Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Visio and ServiceNow
