Job summary

Ai2, a Seattle-based nonprofit AI research institute, seeks a Payroll Lead to own end-to-end payroll across a distributed workforce, including multi-state U.S. payroll and international payroll via EOR partners.

You’ll collaborate with Finance and People Operations to ensure accurate, timely payroll and maintain strong internal controls. You will drive process improvements, develop AI-assisted payroll dashboards, and support quarterly/year-end close while staying compliant with evolving

Qualifications

• 4+ years of progressive payroll experience, including multi-state payroll ownership.
• Hands-on experience with modern payroll/HRIS platforms and monitoring system integrations.
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort with large data sets for reconciliation and reporting.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end payroll for a distributed workforce: multi-state US payroll and international payroll via EOR partners.
• Lead payroll data analysis projects and build AI-augmented dashboards to surface cost trends and headcount insights.
• Maintain audit-ready documentation, internal controls, and payroll SOPs.
• Coordinate with People Operations on hires, transfers, terminations, benefit deductions, and compensation changes.
