Job summary

International Justice Mission (IJM) is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel for Data Privacy and AI to serve as the primary legal advisor and domain owner for privacy, artificial intelligence, information governance, cybersecurity, and related technology matters.

The role partners with Global Functions, Regional teams, and senior leaders to deliver practical legal guidance, scalable governance frameworks, and risk management across jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• J.D. or international equivalent with active bar membership.
• 7+ years of active legal practice in privacy, AI, technology, cybersecurity, or information governance.
• Experience advising senior stakeholders on strategic/operational issues.
• Experience with multinational or nonprofit organizations.
• Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Knowledge of data privacy laws and cross-border regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR).

Responsibilities

• Serve as IJM’s lead legal counsel for Data Privacy and AI, guiding privacy, AI, cybersecurity, data governance, and related tech matters.
• Develop and implement governance frameworks, templates, and guidance for responsible data use and technology adoption.
• Partner with Technology and Legal Affairs to align legal strategies with IJM’s mission and risk tolerance.
• Advise senior leaders on legal risks, options, and recommendations; support decision-making with clear risk analysis.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external counsel; ensure coordinated cross-jurisdictional support.
