Job summary

HDR is seeking an Accounting Director to lead a global accounting team responsible for the monthly close, ensuring US GAAP compliance and accurate financial reporting. You will partner with Tax, Treasury, and operations to drive timely close and strong controls.

Bachelor’s in accounting with 8+ years in corporate accounting and at least 3 years managing managers is required; CPA or related advanced degree preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
• 8+ years of corporate accounting, public accounting, internal audit or related experience.
• 3+ years managing teams, preferably managers with multiple direct reports.
• CPA or similar designation, or master’s degree preferred.
• Must balance strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in complex accounting and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership across multiple Corporate Accounting teams responsible for the general ledger, US GAAP alignment, management reporting, and IFRS/GAAP conventions for global subsidiaries.
• Establish clear expectations and development plans for managers and teams to support timely, accurate accounting processes and deliverables.
• Oversee month-end close workload planning, resource allocation, and prioritization to ensure deadlines are met, including audits and close cycles.
• Drive consistency and standardization across Corporate Accounting processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, reporting packages, and documentation.
• Monitor close milestones, identify risks, communicate status to Accounting leadership, and partner with cross-functional teams.
• Promote ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development within Corporate Accounting.
• Collaborate with Tax, Payroll, Treasury, Legal, Procurement, HR, Operations, and regional finance to ensure accurate accounting data and informed decision making.
• Support talent planning, hiring, onboarding, and retention within Corporate Accounting.
• Evaluate processes and controls to reduce manual effort, increase accuracy, and strengthen compliance.
• Oversee audit support and documentation, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
• Oversee coding of large vendor invoices and routing to Accounts Payable.
• Balance day-to-day execution with long-term process improvements and strategic priorities.
