Job summary

Topstep is seeking a GL Manager in Chicago to lead a 3–5 person finance team, owning payroll accounting, AP coding and all general ledger close activities. You will ensure accuracy, timeliness, and audit readiness, while coaching staff and expanding ownership as the company grows.

The role includes equity rollforwards, month-end flux/variance analysis, and collaboration with cross-functional partners to improve processes and controls. A CPA is preferred and NetSuite experience is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• CPA or active pursuit preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with close ownership and supervision duties.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of GL professionals, including Senior GL Accountants and AP Specialist.
• Own payroll-related journal entries and related reconciliations.
• Oversee AP coding accuracy and payouts across vendors and entities.
• Perform monthly flux/variance analysis and COGS vs. SG&A review.
• Prepare equity rollforwards and coordinate with Legal, Tax, and external advisors.
• Review balance sheet reconciliations and ensure audit-ready documentation.
