Job summary

The City of High Point Public Services Department is offering a GIS Intern position to support municipal asset inventory and infrastructure mapping. You will assist with GPS data collection, photo documentation, and updating GIS databases for water, sewer, stormwater, and street systems.

Ideal candidates will have a valid driver's license, comfort with common computer tools, and a willingness to work outdoors. Training is provided to build GIS and field skills during the four-week program.

Qualifications

• Hold a valid driver’s license.
• Comfort using spreadsheets, databases and word processing.
• Enjoy working with people and building positive relationships.
• Knowledge of GIS and GPS preferred.
• Academic training in the use of Geographic Information Systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist with GPS data collection and photo documentation.
• Inventory public assets and support infrastructure mapping.
• Update GIS databases and maps for water, sewer, stormwater, and streets.
• Support document scanning and data organization.
• Four weeks of on-the-job training provided.
