Job summary

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is seeking a Mental Health Worker for the Geri Psych - Seton 7 West unit. The role covers night shifts, totaling 36 hours per week with every other weekend, and works with a multidisciplinary psychiatric team under RN supervision.

The incumbent will provide direct patient care to adults 18+, participate in crisis intervention, facilitate groups, educate patients and families, and support treatment planning with timely documentation and safety checks.

Qualifications

• Ability to develop helpful relationships with patients, families and staff.
• Ability to use a variety of medical equipment necessary in the delivery of quality patient care.
• Knowledge of growth and development to provide age-appropriate communication.

Responsibilities

• Participates in crisis intervention using verbal and physical de-escalation per CPI and seclusion/restraint policies.
• Assists RN in administering physical care and personal hygiene.
• Leads and co-leads therapeutic process oriented and activity groups.
• Provides patient/family education and supports regarding milieu programming and goals of hospitalization.
• Gives observation and input to Nurse Manager/Charge RN when unable to communicate at treatment meetings.
• Evaluates patient progress toward goals and documents progress in treatment planning and shift reports.
• Conducts patient safety checks and monitors mood and acuity in the unit.
• Identifies issues related to discharge progress or barriers to discharge.
• Monitors vital signs, intake/output, activities of daily living.
