Job summary

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is seeking a Mental Health Worker to join the Psych Nursing team on a per diem basis in Boston, MA. The role supports an inpatient psychiatry unit under RN supervision and focuses on care for patients 18 and older.

The Specialist will participate in crisis intervention, assist with routine care, and lead therapeutic groups while collaborating with social workers and the treatment team to advance discharge goals.

Qualifications

• High School Degree or GED required.
• 1 year of direct patient care experience preferred.
• BLS certification required.
• Ability to develop helpful relationships with patients, families and staff.

Responsibilities

• Participates in crisis intervention with verbal and physical de-escalation per CPI and policy.
• Assists RN with physical care and personal hygiene for patients.
• Leads and co-leads therapeutic process-oriented and activity groups.
• Provides patient/family education regarding milieu programming and hospitalization goals.
• Gives observation and input to Nurse Manager/Charge RN when unable to communicate in meetings.
• Monitors progress toward goals and contributes to treatment planning and shift reports.
• Conducts patient safety checks and assists with vitals, intake, and ADL status.
• Shares observations with social workers and clinical team.
