Job summary

UES seeks a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician I to support geotechnical and construction materials projects in Phoenix, AZ. You will prepare samples, run soil, concrete, and aggregate tests, document results, and ensure quality control in a controlled lab environment.

Ideal candidates have a High School/GED, 0–3 years of lab experience, and a commitment to safety with proficiency in MS Office and FDC software. Travel to sites may be required in this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical coursework in engineering, geology, construction science, or a related field preferred.
• 0–3 years of experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical laboratory work, or a related field (prior lab experience preferred).
• Commitment to workplace safety, following OSHA and lab safety protocols, including PPE.
• Basic computer proficiency, with experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Field Data Collection (FDC) software preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret procedures, manuals, technical documents, and reports related to construction materials testing and lab protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory testing on soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates following ASTM/AASHTO standards.
• Document and report test results with organized, accurate records.
• Assist with sample preparation, handling, and storage; ensure traceability and sample integrity.
• Operate laboratory testing equipment and maintain lab cleanliness and safety.
• Travel to job sites as needed and communicate results to supervisors and field personnel.
