Job summary

UES, Inc. seeks a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician I to support geotechnical, construction materials testing, and environmental projects.

responsibilities include sample prep, running tests on soil, concrete, and aggregates, maintaining records, and ensuring safety and quality in a controlled laboratory setting. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, follows standardized procedures, and can communicate results clearly to engineers and field personnel.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical coursework preferred.
• 0-3 years of experience in construction materials testing or geotechnical lab work.
• Commitment to workplace safety and PPE.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and field data collection software.
• Ability to read and interpret procedures and reports.
• Mathematical skills for basic calculations.
• Strong communication and teamwork.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 35–75 lbs.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory testing on construction materials (soil, concrete, other) following ASTM, AASHTO and standards.
• Ensure testing requirements are met and compliant with project specs and company policies.
• Document and report test results with detailed, organized records.
• Assist with sample preparation, handling, and proper storage; maintain traceability.
• Operate laboratory testing equipment.
• Follow safety protocols and PPE usage in lab and field.
• Communicate results and status with lab supervisors, engineers, and field personnel.
• Perform additional duties to support the lab team, field techs, and project managers.
