Job summary

UES in Flagstaff, AZ is seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician I to support geotechnical, construction materials testing, and environmental projects. You will perform laboratory testing on soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and other materials, following ASTM/AASHTO standards to ensure test results meet project specifications.

The role requires meticulous sample preparation, operation of testing equipment, data recording, and maintaining lab organization and safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree or technical coursework in engineering, geology, construction science, or related field preferred.
• 0-3 years of construction materials testing or geotechnical lab experience preferred.
• Follow OSHA, PPE safety protocols and lab safety procedures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Field Data Collection software.
• Ability to read and interpret procedures and technical documents.
• Strong math skills and attention to detail.
• Effective verbal and written communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory testing on construction materials following industry standards.
• Prepare samples, operate and maintain testing equipment, and document results.
• Ensure accurate data collection and organized, compliant records.
• Assist with sample handling, storage, and traceability.
• Follow safety protocols and use PPE appropriately.
• Communicate test results and sample status to supervisors and field personnel.
• Support lab and project teams as needed.
• Maintain laboratory organization and cleanliness.
