Geotechnical Department Manager - Tampa, FL

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? Terracon is growing and hiring a Geotechnical Department Manager in our Tampa, FL office! Our Tampa office works on exciting projects including commercial, education, hospital, slope stability, deep foundation design, and various other geotechnical projects.

This position is for a senior professional engineer (P.E.) who will be responsible for managing and leading a team of geotechnical engineers, planning, scheduling, and coordinating geotechnical work, and managing projects of varying sizes and complexities. The successful candidate will have experience in all phases of geotechnical and construction management, along with previous leadership experience. Business development efforts such as client meetings, proposals, and reports to support and expand our client base are also essential.

*This position offers a flexible, work-from-home schedule. The selected candidate will also receive a sign-on bonus, annual bonus, stock purchase options, 4 weeks paid time off, and cell phone reimbursement.

Essential Responsibilities
  1. Manage and lead a department of geotechnical engineers, ensuring profitability and growth.
  2. Apply sound engineering principles and communicate complex issues effectively to clients and project teams.
  3. Manage resources, project scheduling, budgets, forecasts, and coordinate with vendors or contractors.
  4. Conduct client development activities within the Tampa area.
  5. Provide excellent customer service.
  6. Design, communicate, and implement project plans.
  7. Develop written proposals for projects of various sizes.
  8. Evaluate and synthesize complex laboratory and field data, compiling reports.
  9. Follow safety rules and report safety issues.
  10. Lead technical training and make informed decisions on technology issues.
  11. Lead marketing, sales, and business development efforts.
  12. Supervise less experienced engineers or technical support staff.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and at least 8+ years of related experience.
  • Ability to acquire Florida Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification in Civil Engineering.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in engineering or related field.
