Environmental Department Manager - Tampa, FL

Are you passionate about the environment? At Terracon, we are experiencing significant growth and are seeking a dynamic environmental department leader for our Tampa, FL office. We are looking for an accomplished environmental professional to lead and grow our environmental business line in Tampa, which includes services in Site Assessment/Remediation, Ecology, and Cultural Resources. Our projects include wetland permitting/delineation, threatened & endangered species surveys, cultural resource studies, industrial hygiene, environmental site assessment, remediation, redevelopment, and site renovation for city and county agencies, school districts, commercial real estate developers, law firms, financial institutions, and A/E/C clients.

This career-level position involves overseeing a department of 40 employees with annual revenues exceeding $4 million. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, coordinating site testing, developing testing plans, and making design recommendations for projects of varying sizes and complexities. The ideal candidate will possess strong operational management and leadership skills, with the ability to evaluate and mitigate risks, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Leadership will be demonstrated through a formal growth plan, staff training, and workload management. A safety-first mindset is essential.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities
  1. Conduct client development activities and build a business portfolio in environmental services in Tampa.
  2. Provide excellent customer service.
  3. Support multiple service lines, including geotechnical, construction, and facilities services.
  4. Participate in business development pursuits as a team member.
  5. Maintain a strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulations.
  6. Implement technical requirements, supervise field staff, and ensure quality data collection and documentation.
  7. Make recommendations for conceptual designs based on technical data.
  8. Develop written proposals for projects of various sizes.
  9. Evaluate and synthesize complex laboratory and field data into reports.
  10. Engage in interdisciplinary team meetings and client communications.
  11. Perform site visits, observations, and detailed data collection.
  12. Mentor and supervise staff scientists and technicians.
  13. Demonstrate leadership in safety practices for incident and injury-free operations.
  14. Lead and participate in pre-task planning.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related field, with 10 years of related experience; or 14 years of experience without a degree.
  • Team-oriented, motivated, and organized.
  • Previous supervisory and managerial experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable record.
  • Flexible work schedule to meet project deadlines.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
