Levain Bakery was founded in 1995 by passionate bakers Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald, who left their careers as competitive triathletes to pursue their love of baking in New York City. Their signature creation, a large chocolate chip walnut cookie, quickly became an icon, drawing visitors from around the world to their neighborhood shop on West 74th Street. Today, Levain has expanded across the country with multiple bakeries and an online gift shop, maintaining their commitment to fresh baking, community involvement, and core values such as welcoming all, working hard with kindness, leading with heart, rising up to challenges, and savoring the moment.

THE ROLE: GENERAL MANAGER (NYC)

The General Manager collaborates with District Managers to oversee bakery operations and financial health, providing on-site support to ensure excellence in retail, baking, and operational standards. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a clear vision for growth.

What you’ll do:
  • Lead with care, agility, and integrity, embodying our values and culture
  • Oversee daily bakery and production operations, including compliance, scheduling, payroll, and maintenance
  • Manage COGS, monitor inventory, and oversee ordering processes
  • Perform various roles within the bakery to assess and optimize performance
  • Own the 4-wall P&L, partnering with operations to meet financial targets
  • Coach, develop, and train team members, fostering talent and growth
  • Cultivate an inclusive and positive work environment
  • Provide exceptional customer service, creating a welcoming atmosphere
  • Create succession plans to support growth and labor needs
  • Collaborate with various departments on initiatives related to operations, forecasting, recruitment, and coaching
  • Develop strategies to increase sales, foot traffic, and manage costs
What we’re looking for:
  • Passion for the food industry and leadership in both people and business
  • Adaptability and calm troubleshooting skills
  • Attention to detail, strategic thinking, and goal breakdown
  • Team-oriented mindset aligned with Levain’s core values and a good sense of humor
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Hospitality, or relevant field
  • 4-5 years of food service, QSR, or retail experience
  • Open availability including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift/push 25-50 pounds and stand/walk for an 8-hour shift
  • Proficiency in English communication and basic computer skills (Email, Microsoft Office)
  • DOH Certification required
Compensation & Benefits:
  • $80k-$95k plus 20% quarterly bonus
