Job summary

IFS in Melville, NY is seeking a General Cleaner to join our janitorial services team. You will perform routine cleaning across offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas, following standard procedures and the site's schedule.

Shifts run 7am–6pm or 6pm–5am, with days/nights including weekends. Benefits include health, life insurance, and a 401(k) plan; eligibility through the applicable union agreement.

Qualifications

• Lift up to 49 pounds.
• Regular bending, lifting and reaching for long shifts.
• Read and understand safety/operating documents in English.

Responsibilities

• Performs work according to standard procedure and building schedule.
• Cleans rooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, stairways, and windows.
• Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors in all areas.
• Check trash receptacles and empty as needed.
• Sort and recycle materials into proper receptacles.
• Clean windows and polished surfaces; dust fixtures, shelves, furniture, and equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness of customer and team restrooms; assist as needed.
• Complete sweep logs as directed.
• Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
• Report work accomplished to supervisor daily.

7am-6pm, 6pm-5am

Duties

• Performs work according to standard procedure and by building's operational schedule.
• Cleans rooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, stairways, and windows.
• Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, and mop floors throughout the sales floor and seating area.
• Regularly check the trash receptacles, emptying as needed, in all areas of the site.
• Collect, consolidate, and separate recycling into proper receptacles.
• Clean windows and mirrored surfaces; polish stainless steel surfaces.
• Dust fixtures, shelves, furniture, and equipment.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the customer and team member restrooms (includes cleaning and policing as needed).
• Complete sweep logs, as directed.
• Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
• Report work accomplished orally or on written work order to supervisor daily.
• Other janitorial duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements for our General Cleaner positions

• Lift and move totes up to 49 pounds each
• Ability to lift and carry objects weighing from 15 to 25 pounds
• Regular bending, lifting, stretching and reaching both below the waist and above the head
• Occasionally push and pull wheeled dollies loaded with products up to 100 pounds
• Engage in full manual dexterity in both hands and wrists
• Standing and walking in and around the facility with great frequency for up to 10-12 hours
• Ability to climb ladders and gangways safely and without limitation
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and safe handling for chemicals sheets/documents (generally in English; may have in Spanish where state required).
