Job summary

Boutique Recruiting is seeking a hands-on Plant Operator for a landfill gas-to-energy facility in Youngstown, NY. You will operate, maintain, and repair large industrial engines, conduct preventive maintenance, and troubleshoot mechanical issues on a small, collaborative team.

The ideal candidate has diesel engine or heavy equipment experience and is comfortable with a rotating on-call schedule. Salary ranges from $51,000 to $60,000 per year, DOE, with onsite weekday hours.

Qualifications

• 1+ year hands-on mechanical maintenance or engine repair experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude to diagnose and fix equipment.
• Experience with diesel engines, heavy equipment, or industrial machinery preferred.
• Willingness to participate in rotating on-call schedule.
• Ability to work independently and in a small hands-on team.
• Willingness to provide personal hand tools or build a suitable collection.
• Commitment to workplace safety and protective equipment.
• Onsite work Monday–Friday 6:30 AM–3:00 PM.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a 10-engine natural gas facility.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
• Troubleshoot engine malfunctions and respond to alarms.
• Adjust plant controls to optimize performance and reliability.
• Disassemble and overhaul engines, replacing worn components.
• Repair and replace worn parts according to maintenance schedules.
• Execute startup/shutdown procedures with safe operating practices.
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (~1 week out of 4).
• Collaborate with operators and management to maintain operations.
• Support engine overhauls at other facilities via travel opportunities.
