Job summary

Qualifications

  • Graduate student in good academic standing.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, filtering, and data organization.
  • Experience working with quantitative data and large datasets.
  • Ability to learn institutional systems such as WebFOCUS and Banner.
  • Experience with Qualtrics or similar survey software.
  • Experience with data visualization or dashboard tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve, organize, and analyze data from WebFOCUS, Banner, and other university data systems.
  • Monitor and analyze enrollment trends, including enrollment by program, degree level, department, course, and term.
  • Assist with analysis of faculty workload, teaching assignments, course enrollments, and instructional capacity.
  • Build and maintain Excel datasets, workbooks, dashboards, and recurring reports for the Dean’s Office.
  • Create clear charts, tables, dashboards, and other data visualizations for presentations and decision-making.
  • Develop and administer Qualtrics surveys and assist with organizing, analyzing, and reporting survey results.
  • Support recurring and ad hoc data requests related to academic programs, enrollment, faculty, and college operations.

Graduate Assistant – Data Analytics & Decision Support Office of the Dean, College of Humanities, Social Sciences & Arts

The Graduate Assistant for Data Analytics & Decision Support supports the Dean’s Office in collecting, organizing, analyzing, and presenting data used for college planning and decision-making. The position will work with enrollment, faculty workload, academic programs, and other college-level data and will help develop clear, reliable reports and visualizations for college leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Retrieve, organize, and analyze data from WebFOCUS, Banner, and other university data systems.
  • Monitor and analyze enrollment trends, including enrollment by program, degree level, department, course, and term.
  • Assist with analysis of faculty workload, teaching assignments, course enrollments, and instructional capacity.
  • Build and maintain Excel datasets, workbooks, dashboards, and recurring reports for the Dean’s Office.
  • Clean, merge, validate, and document datasets from multiple sources.
  • Create clear charts, tables, dashboards, and other data visualizations for presentations and decision-making.
  • Develop and administer Qualtrics surveys and assist with organizing, analyzing, and reporting survey results.
  • Support recurring and ad hoc data requests related to academic programs, enrollment, faculty, and college operations.
  • Maintain organized documentation of data sources, definitions, reporting procedures, and recurring analyses.
  • Assist in identifying trends, inconsistencies, and questions in college data that warrant further analysis.
  • Handle institutional data in accordance with university requirements for confidentiality, privacy, and data security.
  • Perform other data and analytical duties that support the planning and decision-making needs of the Dean’s Office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate student in good academic standing.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, filtering, and data organization.
  • Experience working with quantitative data and large datasets.
  • Ability to learn institutional systems such as WebFOCUS and Banner.
  • Experience with Qualtrics or similar survey software.
  • Experience with data visualization or dashboard tools is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors or inconsistencies in data.
  • Ability to communicate quantitative information clearly to nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality when working with student and faculty information.
Desired Skills
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, R, Python, SQL, or advanced Excel tools is desirable but not required.
  • More important is demonstrated quantitative ability, attention to detail, and an interest in using data to answer practical questions and support academic decision-making.

Graduate assistantships offer opportunities to teach, conduct research, or assist in academic departments while continuing your graduate education. To qualify, students must: Be fully admitted to a graduate program (not provisional or non‑degree) Be in good standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA Be enrolled in courses each term of the assistantship Meet specific credit hour and subject requirements for teaching or lab roles Non‑native English speakers must demonstrate language proficiency Research assistants must complete Responsible Conduct in Research training Work up to 20 hours per week, depending on the appointment May have teaching or research assignments, or provide administrative support.
