Job Description Summary

The Leo Food Pantry Undergraduate Assistant serves as a student ambassador for the Leo Food Pantry, helping to increase awareness of pantry services, reduce stigma associated with accessing basic needs resources, and strengthen connections between the Pantry and the University of La Verne community. This position plays a critical role in promoting food security initiatives, helping students learn about available resources, supporting pantry operations, and coordinating donation focused events. This position is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in community engagement, event planning, communications, and nonprofit operations.
Undergraduate Assistants work closely with professional staff, student employees, and volunteers to help promote and maintain a trauma-informed and inclusive environment for students experiencing food insecurity.

Specific Duties

• Create and distribute Leo Food Pantry promotional materials
• Plan, develop, and post social media content
• Promote pantry services at campus events
• Represent the Leo Food Pantry during outreach activities
• Assist with newsletter content, social media engagement, photography, success stories, and communication campaigns that highlight pantry impact and student resources.

Student Engagement

• Build relationships with students and student organizations
• Gather feedback regarding Pantry services and student needs
• Assist with student awareness campaigns and support efforts to increase utilization of pantry resources.

Donation Drive Leadership

• Plan, coordinate, and implement campus-based food, hygiene, and basic-needs donation drives, including recruiting participants, monitoring donations, and supporting collection and distribution efforts.

Community Partnerships & Events

• Assist with outreach to campus departments, faculty, and community partners
• Support special events and awareness campaigns

Customer Service & Access

• Greet pantry patrons and provide a welcoming, respectful, and confidential experience
• Assist students with food selection while maintaining dignity and choice
• Provide basic information and referrals to other campus student support or basic needs services, as appropriate

Minimum Qualifications

• Current enrollment as an undergraduate student at the University of La Verne

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with student organizations, campus leadership, community service, or volunteer programs.
• Experience creating content for social media, marketing campaigns, newsletters, or events.
• Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to develop new ideas for promoting services and engaging the campus community.

Benefits Summary

Employees are eligible for the following benefits:
One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.
University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan – can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.
In accordance with the Affordable Care Act ( ACA ), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.
Covered under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
