Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Dockworker to efficiently load and unload freight, ensuring items are properly secured and delivered on time. The role emphasizes safety, accurate handling, and teamwork within a fast-paced service center environment.

You will work with forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual techniques, while adhering to DOT guidelines. This position offers growth opportunities within the OD Family and a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Must have working knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transporting procedures.
• Must have working knowledge of procedures surrounding all aspects of freight transportation.
• Must have knowledge of different loading techniques such as loading tight and cross loading.
• Familiarity with, and ability to complete the various forms utilized in freight movement such as shipping orders, city stripping manifests, freight bills, etc.
• Ability to utilize the dock yard management system permitting consistent monitoring of shipment locations as freight moves through the terminals.
• Must be available for work at all times to meet customer pickup and delivery schedules.
• Must have the ability to properly operate handheld tablet when needed.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using a forklift, pallet jack or manually in accordance with DOT guidelines.
• Transport self and freight throughout the service center.
• Read shipping labels and complete freight movement forms as required.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and other securing methods.
• Ensure quality loading and safe handling to support on-time deliveries.
