Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking a dedicated Dockworker to safely load and unload freight, using forklifts and manual methods, while complying with DOT guidelines. You will secure cargo, read labels, and assist in overall warehouse operations to ensure timely deliveries.

Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented, with a strong work ethic, safety focus, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment supporting the OD family culture.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of safe lifting and transporting procedures.
• Knowledge of freight transportation procedures.
• Familiarity with loading techniques such as tight or cross loading.
• Ability to monitor shipment locations with a dock yard management system.
• Must be available to meet customer pickup and delivery schedules.
• Ability to operate a handheld tablet when needed.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using forklift, pallet jack, or manually under DOT guidelines.
• Transport self and freight throughout the service center.
• Use Dock Yard Management System to track shipment locations.
• Read and interpret shipping labels and forms in freight movement.
• Hand load, rewrap, or stack freight as needed.
• Ensure high-quality loading of all trailers.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, or ropes.
• Communicate with service center personnel; fast-paced, deadline-driven.
