Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Dockworker to safely load and unload freight, using forklifts and manual handling techniques. You’ll ensure correct item placement on trucks and maintain high standards for safety and accuracy in a fast-paced service center environment.

The role emphasizes adherence to DOT guidelines, proper freight securing, and accurate handling of shipping documents, with a strong focus on reliability and teamwork within the OD family.

Qualifications

• Must have working knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transporting procedures.
• Must have working knowledge of procedures surrounding all aspects of freight transportation.
• Must know loading techniques such as loading tight and cross loading.
• Familiarity with the dock yard management system for monitoring shipment locations.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using a forklift, pallet jack or manually in compliance with DOT guidelines.
• Transport self and freight throughout the service center.
• Read and interpret shipping labels and forms used in freight movement.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and other supplies.
• Ensure the quality loading of all trailers and maintain safety standards.
