Job summary

Avalon Housing in Ann Arbor, MI, is seeking a Residential Support Specialist (RSS) for a temporary part-time role. You will monitor front desks, assist tenants, and coordinate services while upholding safety and program rules.

Responsibilities include crisis intervention, on-call coverage, and collaboration with staff and service providers. A high school diploma and ability to work with diverse communities are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• Ability to work well with multicultural communities.
• One year of experience in human services.
• Basic understanding of homelessness and the homeless adult population.
• Experience with mental illness and chemical dependency issues preferred.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations in a non-judgmental way.

Responsibilities

• Check visitors in and out, answer phones and monitor security systems.
• Maintain safety and security of residents by monitoring access areas and enforcing rules.
• Intervene in crises, respond to emergencies and contact emergency systems as needed.
• Coordinate services for tenants and contact outside service providers.
• Work cooperatively with staff and visiting providers; refer tenants to clinical staff as necessary.
• Initiate maintenance requests.
• Attend staff meetings, retreats and training sessions.
