JOB TITLE: GUEST SERVICE ATTENDANT

USUAL TIME OF WORK SHIFT: Varies with facility needs. Full-time or part-time positions, variable hours per week.

BREAKS: Two breaks, and one ½ hour lunch, depending on shift.

OVERTIME: As necessary

MACHINES USED: Office machines, tools, and equipment, desktop or laptop computer.

TOOLS USED: General clerical office tools. ASSISTIVE DEVICES: Wheeled pushcarts

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: Speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace. Bilingual a plus.

DESCRIPTION OF WORKPLACE/WORKSTATION: The work takes place at various office locations within a hotel. These areas are level, carpeted, tiled, or have wood flooring, well-lit, and temperature-controlled. The Guest Service Attendant may be exposed to weather conditions when moving between outdoor and indoor areas. Operation of a motor vehicle may be required.

DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASKS/PURPOSE: The Guest Service Attendant performs services for guests, including registering arrivals, assigning rooms, checking out guests, maintaining records in a computer database, explaining charges, processing payments, and representing the establishment professionally. Additional responsibilities may include front office operations, basic bookkeeping, reservations, cashiering, and multi-line telephone operation.

Major Job Functions

  1. Provide high-quality service to customers at all times.
  2. Greet customers immediately with a friendly and sincere welcome.
  3. Use guest names in interactions whenever possible.
  4. Respond promptly to guest concerns and requests.
  5. Know emergency and security procedures thoroughly.
  6. Maintain cleanliness and standards in guestrooms.
  7. Perform basic maintenance and operate mechanical units in guestrooms.
  8. Operate laundry equipment properly.
  9. Inform maintenance of needs.
  10. Wear proper uniform attire as per standards.
  11. Maintain personal cleanliness and neat appearance.
  12. Practice safety standards at all times.
  13. Move items weighing up to 40 lbs; inform management if unable.
  14. Work varying schedules as needed.
  15. Attend regularly as per standards.
  16. Check guests in and out efficiently and friendly.
  17. Post guest charges and process payments following cash handling procedures.
  18. Promote hotel marketing programs.
  19. Record business details in PMS system.
  20. Maintain positive relationships with sales personnel.
  21. Handle guest mail and messages.
  22. Develop knowledge of hotel staff, room locations, rates, and amenities.
  23. Process reservation requests efficiently.
  24. Operate switchboard professionally.
  25. Manage room blocks and special requests.
  26. Monitor room availability.
  27. Handle safe deposits per procedures.
  28. Keep lobby and guest areas clean and presentable.
  29. Offer and handle wake-up calls properly.
  30. Open and close shifts, perform cash drops.
  31. Balance credit card, cash, and change funds during shifts.
  32. Obtain signatures/authorizations for transactions.
  33. Monitor currency intake for counterfeit bills.
  34. Report complaints or problems to management.
  35. Log pertinent information for incoming staff and management.
  36. Manage lost and found inquiries.
  37. Maintain office supplies for smooth operations.
  38. Know local attractions, restaurants, and directions.
  39. Send/receive faxes for guests.
  40. Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Associate must adhere to all work rules, procedures, and policies, including those in the Associate handbook, and be willing to perform other duties within their capabilities.

Preferred Job Qualifications
