Job summary

PAQ, Inc. in Manteca, CA is seeking a Relief Manager to supervise the front-end team and ensure smooth checkout operations. You will lead Combo Clerks, train staff, and help maintain a friendly, accurate checkout experience for customers.

The role requires strong communication, cash handling, POS proficiency, and attentiveness to safety and store policies. Availability on weekends/evenings is expected; previous cashier experience is preferred, with on-the-job training provided.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Over two years of experience as a cashier is preferred. On-the-job training is provided.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly and helpful customer service, including handling difficult situations and resolving customer concerns, with supervisor assistance as needed.
• Utilize knowledge of store layout and products to assist customers with inquiries and problem-solving.
• Manage Combo Clerks by assigning duties, scheduling breaks, and providing training as needed.
• Count out cashiers at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Assist in processing all transactions, including cash, checks, coupons, and electronic payments (debit, credit, gift cards, EFS, EBT, and WIC).
• Provide override and register error assistance to Combo Clerks.
• Examine and address returned merchandise.
• Comply with California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives regulations, such as selling alcohol only during appropriate hours, not selling to visibly intoxicated persons, and adequately checking IDs to prevent sales to minors.
• Supervise self-checkout (SCO) stations, ensuring customer accuracy in scanning items, processing payments, and troubleshooting as needed.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ongoing promotions and store policies to provide accurate information to customers.
• Report potentially unsafe conditions and suspicious activities to ensure a safe store environment.
• Ensure a favorable department image by maintaining a clean, attractive, and friendly department.
• Perform Combo Clerk or other duties as assigned.
