Job summary

BHMG Lifespan Physician Group, Inc., d/b/a Brown Health Medical Group is seeking a Patient Service Specialist to support the administration team in a Rhode Island/MA area facility. You will handle front desk tasks, schedule appointments, verify demographics and insurance information, and maintain confidentiality while delivering high-level customer service to patients in-person, by phone, and via email.

Qualifications

• One to three years as a medical assistant preferred.
• Strong customer service excellence expected.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Experience with EMR strongly preferred (Athena a plus).
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.

Responsibilities

• Answers calls and routes telephone calls appropriately; takes messages and ensures the information reaches the physician/staff.
• Provides routine information and only authorized medical advice from a provider.
• Delivers high level of customer service to patients.
• Creates patient cases and documents telephone calls in EPIC.
• Schedules patient appointments and testing as requested.
• Registers patients in EMR and verifies demographics and health insurance information.
• Performs eligibility checks to ensure insurance is reflected accurately.
• Collects insurance co-pays and balances from patients.
• Follows scheduling notes and direct scheduling across BHMG practices.
• Pre-visit planning and insurance eligibility checks daily.
• Obtains prior authorizations and/or referrals as needed.
• Outreach to patient groups for care and quality guidelines.
• Schedules specialty appointments/testing.
• Handles EMR: buckets as directed.
• Notifies manager of supply needs or assists with ordering.
• Follow up with providers on missing slips and creates claims in EPIC.
• Works assigned revenue cycle buckets as directed.
• Maintains independence with minimal supervision.
• Adheres to policies and patient confidentiality.
