Job summary

UC San Diego Health in Rancho Bernardo is seeking a Patient Service Representative to support front-desk operations in Primary Care. You will handle check-ins, scheduling, and patient interactions with a strong focus on service quality.

The role requires three years’ experience in a large healthcare setting, knowledge of third-party payors, and proficient computer skills across multiple systems. EPIC experience is preferred, with a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of previous related experience in a large complex healthcare setting.
• Strong knowledge of third-party payors including federal, state, and private health plans.
• Ability to work in an interactive environment and possess excellent customer service skills, both in person and over the phone.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated computer skills/ability to work between multiple systems during calls.
• Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, and sound judgment, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive patient information.

Responsibilities

• Greeting patients and providing excellent customer service
• Completing patient check-in and checkout procedures
• Scheduling and coordinating appointments
• Verifying insurance coverage and authorizations
• Updating and maintaining accurate patient demographic information
• Auditing billing documents for accuracy and completeness
• Managing appointment dispositions
• Collecting co-payments and monitoring petty cash drawer
• Collaborating closely with Center physicians, nurses, staff, and other UC San Diego Health departments
• Performing other related duties as assigned
