Job summary

Proviso Township High Schools is seeking an Assistant Coach for Boys Football (Freshman A) at Proviso West High School. You will assist the Head Coach in planning, drills, and conditioning, while promoting a safe and inclusive environment for student-athletes.

The ideal candidate will have teaching certification or ASEP/NFHS coaching credentials, IHSA-concurred safety training, and a commitment to student development.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois State Teaching Certificate (Type 03, 09, or 10) OR ASEP/NFHS Certification, as mandated by IHSA.
• Compliance with IHSA regulations regarding CPR and AED certification for all high school athletic coaches.
• Completion of IHSA-mandated concussion awareness training and safety protocols per state/federal regs including Youth Sports Concussion Safety Act.
• Background check and fingerprint clearance per Illinois School Code and IHSA.
• Completion of federal Title IX training for anti-discrimination compliance.
• In-depth knowledge of the sport, including rules, techniques, and strategies.
• Strong instructional skills in individual and team fundamentals, strategy, and conditioning.
• Commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive athletic program supporting academics and personal development.
• Coaching Certification required for non-teaching staff (ASEP/NFHS or IHSA-approved).
• Concussion certification must be current and valid for ~2 years.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Head Coach to design and run skill-development drills, practice plans, and conditioning sessions.
• Provide individualized feedback on technique, effort, and sportsmanship.
• Assist with game-day logistics, equipment setup, venue prep, warm-ups, and scorekeeping.
• Maintain and inventory athletic equipment; coordinate repairs and distribution.
• Ensure adherence to IHSA rules, district policies and safety protocols (CPR/AED readiness, concussion management).
• Support athlete eligibility tracking and manage documentation (physical exams, academic clearances).
• Foster relationships with students, parents, and staff; elevate concerns to Head Coach as needed.
• Participate in preseason meetings, team briefings, trainings, and postseason tasks (equipment returns, awards).
• Perform additional duties as assigned by administration.
• Coordinate with Athletic Director on travel logistics and schedule; assist with budgeting and inventory.
