Job summary

The Proviso Township High Schools District 209 seeks a Boys Basketball Assistant Coach (Freshman A) at Proviso East High School. This stipend-based, non-tenure role supports the Head Coach with practice planning, skill development, and game-day operations, under the Athletic Director and school leadership.

Candidates must hold an Illinois Teaching Certificate or IHSA/NFHS ASEP certification, complete safety trainings, pass a background check, and maintain CPR/AED and concussion certifications.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois State Teaching Certificate (Type 03, 09, or 10) OR ASEP/NFHS Certification
• CPR and AED certification compliant with IHSA
• IHSA concussion awareness training and safety protocols
• Background check and fingerprinting clearance
• Federal Title IX training for anti-discrimination compliance
• In-depth knowledge of the sport, including rules, techniques, and strategies
• Prior successful coaching experience
• Strong instructional skills in individual and team fundamentals and conditioning
• Commitment to a diverse, inclusive athletic program
• Coaching certification required for non-teaching staff (ASEP/NFHS/IHSA-approved)
• Concussion certification valid for two years

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Head Coach to design skill-development drills and practice plans
• Provide individualized feedback on technique, effort, and sportsmanship
• Assist with game-day logistics: equipment setup, venue prep, warm-ups, scorekeeping
• Maintain and inventory athletic equipment; coordinate repairs and storage
• Ensure adherence to IHSA rules, district policies, CPR/AED readiness, and concussion management
• Track eligibility and manage required documentation (physicals, clearances)
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
• Participate in preseason meetings, trainings, and post-season tasks
• Perform duties as assigned by administration
• Assist with game scheduling and travel logistics
• Support budget tracking and equipment orders
• Prepare materials for parent/ booster meetings and program updates
• Assist in Title IX/ IHSA/compliance documentation with Head Coach
• Coordinate with Athletic Director on equipment purchases and coaching assignments
• Perform additional duties as assigned
