Job summary

Metcalfe's Market is seeking a Meat Cutter to stock and present fresh meat and poultry, weigh and price products, and assist customers. The role requires handling meat with care, operating department equipment, and maintaining inventory accuracy in a fast-paced retail setting.

The position emphasizes food safety, product knowledge, and customer service, with some weekend and holiday shifts based on department staffing needs. Prior meat-cutting experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have two years’ previous experience as a Meat Cutter Apprentice or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, comprehend, and interpret documents.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Suggestive Selling/Knowledge of Products.
• Detail Oriented.

Responsibilities

• Receive and fulfill all customer orders.
• Wrap, weigh, label and display all meat merchandise.
• Stock display case and rotate merchandise as requested.
• Assist customers with all inquiries and requests.
• Operate machinery by following proper department production and safety standards, as needed.
• Conducts inventories and cycle counts as required.
• Follows safe food handling and local health department standards.
• Maintains a safe work environment for employees, vendors and customers.
• Sustains a high level of product knowledge and product preparation work toward continuous quality improvement.
• Grind and trim meat upon customer’s request.
• Inspect and reassemble equipment for use and perform routine maintenance as assigned.
• Clean and sanitize work area, equipment and utensils in compliance with health code.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service standards.
• Work toward continuous quality improvement.
• Ensures accurate pricing by placing the corresponding price and ingredient labels on each package.
• Consistently upholds company culture and meets customer service and performance expectations.
• Uphold, support, and promote compliance with all company policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned
