Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is seeking a Conductor to move freight safely and efficiently. You will receive classroom and hands-on training and work outdoors in varying weather conditions, with opportunities for growth in a dynamic environment.

The role requires compliance with safety regulations, communication with the team, and ability to read rule books and perform inspections. Pre-employment screenings and a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED (or equivalent) required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review; drug and alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

• Comply with federal, state, and railroad safety and operational regulations.
• Follow instructions when working with a trainer, mentor, or supervisor.
• Communicate with team members using signals or radio to coordinate train or railcar movement.
• Operate track switches to determine the route of the train or rail equipment.
• Evaluate and complete all assigned work safely and efficiently.
• Climb on/off equipment and walk the length of the train or rail yard to support operations.
• Read and understand rule books and other materials for safety compliance.
• Inspect train and equipment condition for safety.
• Connect air hoses and electrical components between locomotives or railcars.
• Utilize basic computer skills for electronic reporting and train documentation.
