Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is seeking a Conductor to move freight safely and efficiently. You’ll receive classroom and hands-on training to establish a long-term railroad career in a dynamic outdoor setting. Expect a 40+ hour schedule, with shifts that include nights and weekends as part of a 24/7 operation.

Responsibilities include complying with safety regulations, coordinating with trainers, and operating track switches while ensuring timely service for customers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license required
• At least 18 years old at time of hire
• Pre-employment physical, hearing and vision screening may be required
• Background and motor vehicle checks required

Responsibilities

• Comply with federal, state, and railroad safety and operations regulations
• Follow trainer/mentor/supervisor guidance
• Communicate with team via oral, written, hand signals, lantern signals or radio
• Operate track switches to determine train/railcar routes
• Plan and complete work safely and efficiently
• Climb on/off equipment and walk along the train/rail yard
• Apply or release hand brakes to control movement
• Read and understand rule books and related materials
• Inspect train and equipment for safety compliance
• Connect air hoses and electrical components between locomotives or railcars
• Use basic computer skills for electronic reporting and train documentation
• Perform other duties as assigned
