Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a dockworker to transport freight across the dock area to and from trailers for loading. The role involves operating forklift and pallet jacks, verifying freight paperwork, and securing loads for transfer.

The position requires basic math and communication skills, 18+ years old, and prior warehouse or forklift experience is preferred. Physical lifting and team collaboration are essential to daily duties within a dock environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Prior warehousing, freight handling and/or forklift experience preferred
• Hostler/yard mule duties experience preferred
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, lift dock plates ~100 pounds, open trailer doors requiring ~75 pounds of lift force
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, pushing/pulling freight throughout shift
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member
• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading to trailers.
• Perform freight handling using forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Verify documentation matches freight description using current system.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, or rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with laws/regulations and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
