Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a dock worker to transport freight between dock areas and trailers. You will operate forklifts and pallet jacks, verify freight documentation, and secure loads with pallets, straps or rope. You may assist customers and perform hostling duties as needed.

The role requires basic math, good communication, and the ability to work independently or in a team in a dock environment. Hours vary by operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Prior experience in warehousing, freight handling and/or forklift operations preferred.
• If hostler/yard mule duties required, experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, to lift dock plates weighing approx. 100 pounds, and to open trailer doors requiring approx. 75 pounds of lift force, up to several times per day or more.
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, pushing/pulling freight throughout shift.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading to trailers.
• Perform freight handling using motorized and manual equipment such as forklift, pallet jack and hand truck.
• Verify documentation matches freight description using current system.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with laws, regulations and company policies/procedures.
• Perform other duties as required.
