Job summary

a1mobile is seeking a Product Designer to own the design of the app end to end, from onboarding and the AI assistant to calls, messages, and settings. You'll set the direction for our product experience and work side by side with the engineers who build it.

This hybrid, San Francisco-based role requires shipping mobile product work, building a design system in Figma, and turning complex flows into simple journeys.

Product Designer · Hybrid, San Francisco Bay Area

This is a hybrid role based in our San Francisco office. You should live in the San Francisco Bay Area and be able to work from the office a few days a week.

About a1mobile

a1mobile is building the AI-native carrier for businesses.

We're rebuilding the carrier layer, bringing mobile, landline, and AI phone systems together. Every business number should answer, understand, take action, and follow up.

Our first product, a1mobile One, is one business line for $99/month: unlimited calls and texts, 5G data, and an AI receptionist built into the carrier itself. It answers every call and text 24/7, takes bookings and orders, sends quotes and follows up. Our customers are small service businesses: restaurants, cafes, salons, studios, contractors, and hotels.

We recently raised an $11.5M seed round led by General Catalyst, with backing from Menlo Ventures, SV Angel, Commerce Ventures, and other leading investors.

We're looking for a Product Designer to own the design of the a1mobile app end to end, from onboarding and the AI assistant to calls, messages, and settings. You'll set the direction for our product experience and work side by side with the engineers who build it.

• 5+ years of product design experience, including mobile products you designed and shipped.

What you'll do

• Own the end-to-end experience of our mobile app, from onboarding and checkout to calls, messages, and the AI assistant.
• Map the product's flows and information architecture, and turn them into clear, simple journeys.
• Design how people work with AI: conversations with the assistant, the actions it takes, and how it keeps the business informed.
• Build and maintain our design system and component library in Figma, with tokens, light and dark mode, and accessibility built in.
• Work closely with engineers to ship your designs, review what's built, and keep Figma in sync with the product.
• Talk to customers, run quick usability tests, and use product analytics to decide what to improve next.
• Shape the moments where new customers meet the product, like the App Store listing and first-run experience.

What we're looking for

• A portfolio that shows shipped product work, your process, and the decisions behind it.
• Strong interaction and visual design skills, with a high bar for detail and craft.
• Experience building and scaling design systems in Figma.
• Comfort turning complex systems into simple experiences.
• Experience working closely with engineers and shipping in small, fast iterations.
• A strong sense of ownership and the ability to move work forward without waiting to be told.
• A team player who communicates openly, shares knowledge, and collaborates closely with others.
• The flexibility to adapt and keep pace with a fast-moving startup.

Nice to have

• Experience designing for small businesses, telecom, or fintech.
• Prototyping skills in Figma, ProtoPie, or code.
• Experience as an early design hire at a startup.

You’ll be a founding voice for how a new kind of carrier looks and feels. Your work will shape the product small businesses use every day to answer their customers and run their day.
