HartleyCo in San Francisco is looking for the first GTM hire to build a profitable sales function at an AI startup. You will start by selecting target accounts, crafting emails, cold calling, and running campaigns to generate pipeline. You’ll then distill what works, create a playbook, and earn the right to lead a scaling team.
A broader remit includes tools, events, experiments, and winning customers. You should have real evidence you can sell—SDR, early AE, startup GTM hire, or founder who won
Want to build the sales function at an AI startup that’s already profitable?
I’m working on a first GTM hire, partnering directly with the CEO.
What does “Founding GTM” actually mean here?
Initially: choosing accounts, writing emails, making cold calls, running campaigns and generating pipeline yourself.
Then: figuring out what works, building the playbook and earning the opportunity to lead the team that scales it.
There’s a broader business remit too. Tools, events, experiments and whatever else helps the company win customers.
You’ll need some real evidence that you can sell. That could be as an SDR, an early AE, a startup GTM hire or a founder who’s won customers.
You should write clearly, learn quickly and be comfortable creating momentum without a finished process.
Practical AI use is a big plus. Personal ownership of prospecting is central to the job.
Full-time, in person in San Francisco, with customer and event travel.
$120k-$170k base. Equity or variable compensation will depend on the agreed shape of the role.
