Job summary
CI&T is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer with strong senior Java expertise and hands-on AI-assisted development tool experience to deliver enterprise solutions. You will work directly with existing applications and engineering teams, applying AI-enabled workflows to understand codebases and accelerate modernization.

Qualifications
- Strong Java development experience, ideally within enterprise environments and complex existing systems.
- Hands-on experience with Java application development, maintenance, refactoring, and modernization.
- Experience using AI code-generation tools (Cursor or similar) within a team project.
- Experience with AI-assisted workflows for test generation.
- Ability to understand and navigate complex codebases.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals and collaborative practices.
Responsibilities
- Work hands-on with complex, existing Java applications and enterprise codebases.
- Analyze and reverse-engineer existing systems to understand architecture, dependencies, business logic, and technical constraints.
- Use AI-assisted development tools as an integral part of the engineering workflow, including code generation, analysis, refactoring, testing, and documentation.
- Apply structured AI development approaches, including reverse engineering and Spec-Driven Development (SDD).
- Refactor and modernize existing Java applications, including removal or replacement of legacy dependencies.
- Generate and improve automated tests to support safe modernization and refactoring.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams and stakeholders to translate requirements into maintainable technical solutions.
- Help establish effective, repeatable AI-assisted development practices that can be shared across engineering teams.
- Maintain high standards for code quality, maintainability, testing, and software engineering best practices.
