Job summary

Databricks is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer in the San Francisco Bay Area with deep data engineering and ML/AI capabilities. You will own end-to-end delivery, design scalable architectures, and work directly with enterprise customers to deploy production-grade solutions on the Databricks platform.

The role requires 6+ years in data or software engineering, fluency in Python/Scala/JavaScript, cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GCP) and strong knowledge of Apache Spark.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering, data platforms & analytics, or software engineering.
• Comfortable writing code in Python, Scala, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern frameworks.
• Working knowledge of two or more Cloud ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP) with expertise in at least one.
• Deep experience with distributed computing with Apache Spark and knowledge of Spark runtime internals.
• Familiarity with CI/CD for production deployments.
• Working knowledge of MLOps, ML/AI models and AI APIs.
• Design and deployment of production end-to-end data architectures and applications combining data pipelines, ML/AI models, and user interfaces.
• Experience with technical project delivery—managing scope, timelines and outcomes.
• Documentation and white-boarding skills.
• Experience with enterprise clients and managing conflicts across stakeholders.
• Travel to customers 20% of the time.
• Databricks Certification.

Responsibilities

• Lead production-grade projects by delivering reference architectures, custom apps, data ingestion and ML/AI model integration.
• Guide transformational big data projects from end-to-end design to deployment.
• Embed with customer teams to ensure understanding, adoption, and measurable outcomes.
• Own architecture decisions to ensure secure, scalable solutions aligned with customer needs and Databricks best practices.
• Collaborate with engineering, project managers, architects and customer teams to deliver work as specified.
• Provide feedback to product and support teams to guide rapid issue resolution.
• Contribute accelerators, frameworks and best practices that scale across accounts and influence the product roadmap.
