Job summary

Forward Air Corporation in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Forklift Operator to safely load, unload, and move freight in a dock environment. This role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and teamwork, with certification prerequisites and hands-on training provided.

You will operate sit-down/stand-up forklifts and other MHE, document cargo with handheld scanners, and mentor newer Material Handlers while supporting dock productivity on Mon-Fri 12pm-8pm.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid forklift certification required.
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to recognize numbers, labels, barcodes, and freight markings and perform basic arithmetic.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using sit-down/stand-up forklifts and other MHE per procedures.
• Move, stage, and position freight between dock doors and warehouse areas.
• Label, scan, and track freight with handheld devices for accuracy.
• Assist drivers with loading/unloading while following safety procedures.
• Train, mentor, and support development of other Material Handlers.
