Job summary

Forward Air Corporation seeks a Freight Handler (Forklift Operator) to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient loading, unloading, staging, and documentation of freight in a multimodal environment. You will operate sit-down/stand-up forklifts and reach trucks, assist with dock activities, and mentor junior teammates as needed.

Responsibilities include using handheld scanners, verifying freight counts, and maintaining OSHA and PPE standards in a busy warehouse setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid forklift certification/licensure or ability to obtain before operating equipment.
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience required.
• Ability to communicate safely in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to read labels, barcodes, and perform basic arithmetic.
• Willingness to learn computer systems and handheld scanners.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using forklifts and other MHE.
• Move, stage, and position freight between dock doors and areas.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping and delivery.
• Assist drivers with loading/unloading following safety procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight to ensure accuracy.
• Identify damaged freight and report issues to supervision.
• Maintain a clean and safe dock environment.
• Learn equipment operation and safety procedures as developing roles.
• Support dock productivity and overall operational goals.
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
